It wouldn’t be the only event scheduled to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Or even the only ballet. But, unlike the others, the unique purpose of the world premiere of “Earthquake” was to celebrate the extraordinary advances in earthquake engineering technology during the last century. Computers & Structures, Inc. – which produces the world’s leading software for designing man-made structures to withstand the extremes of nature – had commissioned a timeless new work from the Bay Area’s acclaimed Diablo Ballet, which would be performing it in San Francisco on the eve of this historic event. The occasion would mark the first opportunity for this Bay Area dance company to step into the national spotlight. As well, it would give sponsor CSI its first public service recognition. Despite the fierce competition for attention by over a hundred commemorative events, Lyla Foggia help CSI produce the campaign that ultimately scored interviews with Newsweek, NBC Nightly News, ABC Network News, MSNBC, PBS NewsHour, NPR, and San Francisco’s KPIX-TV and ABC7– as well as a full-page photo in the San Francisco Chronicle and more.
Proving that the media just wants a good story, Foggia simultaneously helmed the publicity programs for three of the Bay Area’s leading performing arts organizations: the California Symphony, Festival Opera, and Diablo Ballet.
